Welcome

Since 1947, Brathay Exploration Group (BEG) has taken around 10,000 people on over 700 expeditions designed to broaden knowledge and help the planet.

We are an environmental and cultural education charity that builds partnerships to provide UK and worldwide exploration opportunities to young people.

From measuring the depths of Lake District tarns to glacial surveying in Norway, BEG specialises in going the extra distance.

This year, Brathay Exploration Group is proud to be celebrating 65 years years of exploration, environmental studies and youth development.  To each of our expeditions, we set about a mission or project that serves the destination's environment and welfare and provides personal development to the participants and leaders.

Our organisation doesn't end there, we also provide a fabulous Lake District Open Gold DofE opportunity for training and assessment, plus all of our expeditions are approved for your DofE residentials.

BEG believes in the development of our existing and potential new leaders through subsidised training such as ML training and assessments, and we also like to nurture the team spirit of the group by holding club activities for the members, either here in the Lake District or at various places around the UK.
