Trevor Roberts became Chairman of the Board of the BEG Trust in October 2009. He recently retired from active involvement in his specialist local government training and management consultancy, and has had a long career associated mainly with town planning – he was President of the Royal Town Planning Institute in 1998-99. He lives in the Lake District. As Board Chairman, his role is to lead and coordinate the actions of the BEG Trust.

My first contact with the Group was an initial expedition as a schoolboy which led to leading expeditions in Britain and overseas. I have been a member of the BEG Board periodically over the years and also served for a decade as governor of Brathay Hall. I am also Secretary of other charitable trusts, including The Young Explorers Trust, and recently returned to the BEG Board as Company Secretary after a break of ten years.

I initially joined BEG for the India 2001 expedition. This fantastic experience combining community work (building a school), trekking (Himalayas) and sightseeing has led me, with a little experience and training, to lead trips to Corsica, Tour de Mont Blanc and Morocco. I have since been involved with BEG as a member of the Marketing Committee and the Board, and I am very pleased to have links with such a unique organisation.

I joined BEG in 2000 as a member of an expedition to complete the Tour de Mt Blanc. I was struck by the unique experience offered by BEG expeditions and took part in two other expeditions to Corsica, the last in 2004 as part of the leader team. Since completing my Mountain Leadership training in 2003, I have planned and taken part in solo and group expeditions in the UK, Pyrenees, Bulgaria, New Zealand and Australia. My involvement in BEG has previously been limited to the development of our Young Leader programme, and assisting in the planning and co-ordination of our expedition programme. I am currently training to be a solicitor and work as a Risk Analyst for a national utility company.

As Head of the Blencathra Field Studies Council Centre near Keswick in the Lake District (link below) we teach the 'outdoor classroom' to 5000+ students each year, mostly aged 16-18. I have lived and worked in Poland and Saudi Arabia and run several expeditions to Northern Kenya. In 2007 I was seconded to BEG to add my management and educational experience to the team.
