Leader - Foula 2010

I first went to Foula with Brathay in 1969 as a teenager, and apart from a leader-training expedition in the Lakes, I have done ten expeditions to the island, working up through the Brathay leadership scheme. I thoroughly enjoy taking young people and sharing with them the remoteness and other aspects of somewhere that has given me so much pleasure over the years.

Leader Morocco '08

I joined BEG in 1997 and have since led expeditions to Morocco, Oman, Tanzania (twice), Bolivia and Mull. I am well travelled with a strong interest in emergency medical care, and feel equally at home in deserts, rain forests and on snow-capped mountains.

Leader Corsica 08

My interest in the outdoors started in the Venture Scouts years ago, and gradually escalated to climbing, mountaineering and ski touring in some amazing parts of the world.  I've climbed lots in the Alps, skiied across a bit of Baffin Island, climbed unclimbed peaks in Kyrgyzstan and enjoyed sunny rock climbs in California - to list a few things.  I spent my recent honeymoon in Patagonia, trekking and skiing.  Luckily the missus is more up for these things than I am!  I became involved with Brathay a couple of years ago and led the 2008 GR 20 trip to Corsica.  Stunning, but a bit hot for me - must go somewhere colder next time!

Leader - Morocco 07

Aa an avid backpacker, I love nothing more than strapping my worldly possessions to my back and heading for the mountains, including Corsica 04, Tour de Mont Blanc 05, Morocco 07 and Kenya 08.

Leader - Alaska 2004

I led my first expedition for BEG in 1998 to the Jotunheimen in Norway and am looking forward to returning in 2009. I have been to many fantastic places on expeditions both for Brathay and for other organisations, as well as on many personal trips. It doesn't take long when reading through my expedition diary to discover that my heart really lies in the mountains and snow - Patagonia, Argentina, 3 times to Alaska, 2 times to Norway, many times to the European Alps, twice to Greenland, Nepal, Iceland, Kenya (snow & ice on Mount Kenya!!!). Nevertheless I am also quite partial to a bit of sunny rock climbing! I have worked for The Prince's Trust for over 9 years and live in Garstang just down the road from Cumbria!

Leader - D of E Gold 2006

My first BEG expedition as a leader was to Iceland in 1969, then Kenya, Norway, China, Scotland and others, and loads in the Lake District, initially as part of the ‘Introduction to the Mountain Environment’ expeditions, and in recent years with the Duke of Edinburgh Award Open Gold expeditions. BEG is a family affair; both of my sons have been with BEG on many worldwide expeditions, and my wife Gill is also involved. I still enjoy travelling and mountaineering.
