Background

In 2009 Brathay Exploration Group, working jointly with The Field Studies Council and Norwegian Glacier Museum and Ultveit-Moe Climate Centre, mounted a reconnaissance expedition of Tunsbergdalsbreen, the largest valley outlet glacier of the Jostedal icecap in southern Norway.

What's happening...

This 3 week expedition is part of a long term project to survey the lower section of the Tunsbergdalsbreen Glacier. This will be the third annual expedition in partnership with Newcastle University, Norwegian Glacier Museum and Field Studies Council. You will learn both ice and GPS survey skills in Norway and attend the compulsory training weekend in the Lakes 10th -12th June.

During the expedition you will journey on a glacier exploring this beautiful uninhabited landscape and discover the joys of living in a remote wilderness. You will gain essential mountaineering skills, experience Norwegian hospitality, develop personal and social skills of working in a team and be part of this important project to monitor climate change.
