What is Brathay Exploration Club?
Brathay Exploration Club was founded in 2009 by members of the Brathay Exploration Group Trust. We aim to provide activities for our members to help develop their mountain and leadership skills, meet likeminded people and take part without the time commitment of long expeditions.
We are affiliated to the British Mountaineering Council (BMC) and benefit from their public liability insurance and many other perks. We operate peer lead expeditions and weekend meets as well as running a number of different training courses. Meets are run throughout the country and abroad, each meet has a co-ordinator whose role is to make plans and communicate with all those who want to take part.
We are also involved in larger scientific projects, such as the Tunsbergdalsbreen project in Norway and ongoing research on Foula in the Shetlands.
We are a friendly club who tries to facilitate as many peer lead expeditions as possible and provide a safe framework to run these within. The Club is a place to learn from others and build successful expeditions.
