2008 Duke of Edinburgh OPEN GOLD Expedition

 

The Expedition

 

This 11 day course covers expedition training including all sections in the record book with the exception of first aid – map and compass skills, campcraft, food and cooking, team building and emergency procedures. During the first week you will also undertake a closely supervised 2 day practice expedition in wild country.During the latter half of the course you will design your own route and prepare for the qualifying venture. The qualifying venture will be assessed by local assessors and you will prepare and deliver presentations to the assessors on the final dayThis course covers the requirements for the Practice expedition or the Residential experience, and the Qualifying expedition (subject to approval by each member's Local D of E Operating Authority). Requirements
The first aid section of the record book must be completed prior to attending the course. You need to be enthusiastic, able to work well as part of a team, and fit enough to cope with the demands of the four day expedition, such as carrying your loaded rucksack uphill!
   
Additional Information
BEG will provide all group expedition equipment necessary for camping and cooking. Members will need to provide their own personal kit e.g. clothing, boots, sleeping bag, karrimat and rucksack (advice on kit will be provided in advance). If you have logged a Practice expedition in advance of the course then this course can also qualify as the Residential Section of the Gold Award (subject to approval by each member's Local D of E Operating Authority). .
