This is a course is designed  to provide training in the broad range of skills that make a well rounded expedition leader. Covering...

The teaching of this course will have high practical content with sessions being delivered using a mixture of styles and methods including practical exercises, scenario based sessions and discussions as well as a one night expedition in to the mountains.

Content

  • Why run expeditions? Why run expeditions for our members? What is experiential learning?
  • Professional standards: What standards should we adhere to as leaders?; duty of care, working with young people child protection, gender, race, religion
  • Leadership skills: different leadership styles and how these might be used in different situations
  • Soft skills: coaching, learning styles, teaching styles. Reviewing and personal development on expeditions. Facilitation skills
  • Expedition Safety: dynamic and formal Risk Assessment, major incident planning; Staying safe, expedition health managing threat
  • Expedition: route planning, stoves and emergency equipment, camping skills, equipment, environmental awareness, emergency evacuation, food, nutrition and expedition catering

The course starts at 7pm on Friday 16th March and completes at 4pm on Sunday 18th March.
